God is a supernatural being, who oversees and controls the universe. He is omnipotent (meaning He is almighty, and every power belongs to Him), omniscience (meaning He knows everything) and omnipresent (meaning He is everywhere at the same time).

God created the heavens and earth including every creature, according to the scripture, “For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.” Colossians 1:16-17.

Illustration representing the Trinity - God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit, with divine symbols

The Trinity depicts God's existence in various forms: the Father is God Almighty, the Son is Jesus Christ who God confirmed as His beloved son in John 3:16, while the Holy Spirit is the Comforter whom Jesus had promised the disciples, He came upon them during Pentecost. John 4:24 says that God is a Spirit and must be worshiped in spirit.

God is love, 1 John 4:16, “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” confirms this. He loves us, His children, and He expects us to love one another, Mark 12:31.

God is the creator of everything, and He rules over all His creation, including us. His lordship is very important. In the book of Exodus 3, while speaking to Moses, God referred Himself as the 'Lord'. Every event happens as a result of God's plan.

Illustration of Adam and Eve in the beautiful Garden of Eden with birds and trees

God created man in His own image. He gave Adam authority over other creatures and provided everything Adam and Eve needed as at that time, but they sinned against Him, which made them lose everything they had, including eternal life. God sent His son, Jesus Christ to die for our sins, so that all that we lost would be restored.

In conclusion, God is perfect. He does not make mistakes nor lie like humans (Numbers 23:19). He is the alpha and omega, the author and finisher of our faith. He loves us dearly and does not want us to perish. That was why He sent His only son to earth, to die so that we can be saved.

The Creation

In the beginning, God created heaven and earth. The earth was without form and was in complete darkness. The spirit of God walked on the surface of the waters. Next, God created light and separated it from darkness, He named the light day and darkness night. God created the sky on the second day. On the third day, He commanded the waters to gather in a place called sea. Grass and herbs grew on the dry lands and they bore fruits. On the fourth day, God created the heavenly bodies and birds of the sky. On the fifth day, God created cattle and other land animals. God created man on the sixth day, in His image and likeness. God blessed man and told him to be fruitful and multiply. Adam the first man named the other creatures; God gave him authority over all of them. God rested on the seventh day which symbolizes 'sabbath' in this present day. God created Eve with a rib, He had removed from Adam, when he fell in a deep sleep.

God was happy with his creation, that they were good in His eyes.

God Giving the Laws

Three months after the Israelites left Egypt, they entered the wilderness of Sinai. They set out from Rephidim and settled at the base of Mount Sinai. Moses had climbed the mountain to pray to God. The Lord told Moses to tell the children of Israel that they have seen what He did to the Egyptians and how He carried them on eagle's wings to Himself. Then the Lord made a covenant, or a special promise, with them if they kept his commandments. Moses came down from the mountain bearing God's commandment, he gathered the elders and told them what God had said. Together they replied saying they would do whatever what God said. When Moses had gone back to God, Gold told him He would come to the Israelites on the third day, therefore they should be made themselves spiritually clean. The people did as they were told. God gave Moses the ten commandments to read out to them and obey all.

Exodus 19-20

Jesus and the Significance of the Crucifixion

Jesus Christ is God's only son. He was birthed by a virgin called Mary. The book of John 3:16, Luke 9:35 and Matthew 17:5 are few scriptures that confirm that Jesus is indeed the son of God.

Jesus was preaching on a fateful day, when a pharisee asked him what the greatest law was. Jesus replied saying, the first is love God with all your heart and soul, and the second is love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus teaches us that love is the greatest law.

The moment man sinned against God, he lost everlasting life in God and was meant to die. For the punishment of sin is death, but through Jesus Christ man has the gift of God, which is eternal life. In the epistle of Paul to the Corinthians, he talked about how we conquer death, through Jesus Christ “'Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?' The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” The crucifixion of Jesus was an atonement of our sins; we are saved from sins and its punishment which is death.

The New Creation - New Heavens and Earth

According to the revelations John had, he saw new heaven and a new earth after the first had passed away. He also saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from heaven. He heard a voice in heaven saying the tabernacle (home) of God is with men and He will live with them, that He will wipe away their tears and there shall be no more death, sorrow, nor tears as old things had passed away. God said he would make all things new, also give who is thirsty a fountain to drink from. All those who overcome shall receive all things; He will be their God, and they shall be his son.

Jesus said that His Father's house (heaven) has many rooms. He would go make room for the believers, and He would come back to them with Him. This further shows that the end fate of all believers is Heaven with God.
