The son of God and the world's savior.
Jesus Christ was born of God to save the world. Many call Him the Second Adam - this is because the first Adam introduced sin into the world, but Jesus was brought into the world to take the sin away! Jesus spent His life letting people know about the power of God, and the gift of righteousness.
Jesus was born to Mary and Joseph, but He was not born of a man. Mary conceived Him by the power of the Holy Spirit, so He was born without sin! When King Herod heard that a new King was born, he tried to kill Jesus, but this did not happen as God kept Jesus safe.
From a young age, Jesus was found doing His earthly father’s work; Joseph was a carpenter. But Jesus was also found learning at the temple and even asking questions that amazed the teachers. As He grew, He became baptized by John the Baptist and started going around performing miracles and preaching the gospel.
Jesus gained disciples who followed Him and preached alongside. There were times when the devil would try to tempt Jesus, but Jesus knew who He was and He was unable to sin. He did not fall for such temptations. Instead, He grew stronger in wisdom and knowledge of who He was in God.
Jesus had a purpose on earth, and that was to die for the sake of the children of God, including you and me. No one wishes to die, so even Jesus wished that God would take away the suffering He was about to face. But the salvation of the world was more important, therefore Jesus agreed to bear the pain for our sake.
Jesus was betrayed by one of His own disciples called Judas Iscariot, and another disciple, called Peter, denied knowing Him. Even a crowd of people hated Jesus so much that they chose the freedom of a criminal over Him and crucified Him with two criminals after mocking Him and beating Him up.
Jesus died physically, but He resurrected to sit on the right side of God in Heaven. His sacrifice was great and painful, and He didn’t live a long life on earth or spend a lot of time with His earthly family. He willingly paid the price as the Savior of the world so that you and I may be set free.
In Galilee, there was a city named Nazareth where the virgin Mary lived. An angel of God visited her one day and said that she would give birth to a son who would be named Jesus. Mary was worried and afraid, but the angel told her that it was the will of God, just like with Elizabeth who had been unable to have children for some time.
Joseph, a carpenter, was to take Mary as his wife. After the wedding ceremony was done, when he had not met with Mary as his wife, Mary became pregnant just like the angel had said. Joseph was a good man, so he planned to let Mary go without bringing shame to her, but the angel of God appeared to him as well. The angel told him not to let Mary go as the child was of God, so he obeyed. Joseph and his wife travelled to Bethlehem and Jesus was born in a manger because there was no space in the inn where they stayed.
John the Baptist was the son of Zechariah and Elizabeth and was born around the same time that Jesus was born. John went around preaching for people to repent (turn away from sin) and be baptized. He lived in the wilderness, eating locusts and wild honey as his food. As he preached the gospel, he also baptized people from all over Judea and Jerusalem.
One day, Jesus came from Galilee to be baptized by John at the Jordan river. At first, John did not want to, saying that it was Jesus who should baptize him as John knew who Jesus was, but he later agreed so the prophecy would be fulfilled.
Jesus came out of the water after being baptized by John and the heavens opened as the Spirit of God came down like a dove and rested on Jesus. Then a voice said from heaven “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
After Jesus had performed the miracle of feeding five thousand people with five loaves and two fish, the disciples took the boat and began rowing away without Him. Jesus stayed behind, sending the crowd away. Afterwards, He went to pray on the mountain. The disciples were in the middle of the sea when a heavy wind blew, and it became hard for them to row their boat. Jesus went on into the sea from the land, and he started walking on water!
When the disciples saw this, they were afraid because they thought it was a ghost, but Jesus assured them that it was Him.
Peter had great faith, so he said, “Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you on the water.” And Jesus asked him to come, and Peter did. He walked from the boat to Jesus on water, but when he saw the great wind, he got scared and began to sink until Jesus saved him.
Jesus was in Capernaum teaching, and a crowd went with him into a house until there was no room for more people to come in. Four men were carrying a paralyzed man who wanted to be healed by Jesus, but there was no space for them to come into the house, so they went up to the roof of the house and let down the bed on which the paralyzed man laid.
Jesus saw that these people had so much faith that He looked at the paralyzed man and let him know that his sins were forgiven. Some people did not think that anyone but God had the power to forgive sins. Jesus knew what they were thinking, so after letting them know that He was the Son of God, he commanded the paralyzed man to get up and walk to the glory of God. When this happened, the people were truly amazed by it.
It was almost time for the feast of Passover, a special Jewish celebration. Jesus gave instructions to His disciples on how to find the place that they would prepare for Passover. When the place was ready, Jesus sat with his twelve disciples, letting them know that He really wanted to have the Passover with them before His suffering began. He knew that He would soon be arrested.
Jesus took the bread first, then the wine and said, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me. This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”
After this, He revealed to them that the person who would betray Him was sitting with them at the table, but no one knew who it would be. Jesus washed the feet of the disciples after the supper, teaching them to be servants, not just teachers.
The people who wanted Jesus dead took Him to Pontius Pilate, their leader, to be judged. Pilate asked Jesus what He had done, but Jesus remained quiet. Then Pilate tried to speak to the great crowd to not kill Jesus because He hadn’t committed any crime, but they wouldn’t listen. He even asked them to pick who to kill between a dangerous criminal called Barabbas and Jesus, and the people picked Jesus.
Pilate washed his hands to show he did not want to be responsible and handed Jesus over to be crucified. Jesus was made to wear a robe and a crown of thorns, and the soldiers mocked Him, calling Him the King of the Jews. They beat Jesus and dragged Him to Golgotha where he was crucified. Over His head were the words: THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS. Jesus was crucified with two criminals on his left and right sides, and the prophecy was fulfilled.
After Jesus had died, on the third day, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early in the morning. She saw that the stone at the entrance was gone and the body of Jesus was not there. Then she ran to tell Simon Peter and the other disciples. When they went in, they saw that linen clothes were folded neatly in the tomb, but no body was in it! Mary was heartbroken and began weeping, but when she looked up, she saw two angels in the tomb who asked her why she was weeping. She responded, saying they had taken the body of Jesus away.
Just as she spoke, Jesus appeared to her. She did not know it was Him, she thought it was a gardener, so she asked Him of Jesus.
Jesus called out her name and revealed Himself to her, but He commanded her to not hold on to Him for He was returning to Heaven. He then told her to let the rest of the disciples know that He was risen from the grave and had defeated death!
